By
nature of the type of works carried out demolition is a
potentially hazardous occupation. At Capital Demolition

that adequate protection has been considered and provided
to preclude unnecessary risk of accident, injury and exposure

Capital

We
have wide experience in dismantling, as well as heavy demolition.
A recent project involved dismantling a reinforced concrete
framed 3 storey office block, the ground floor of which
contained well known High Street retailers and a nationally
known pizza restaurant.
Both
busy traders had to remain open and trading throughout removal
of the offices above and around them. A system of work was
developed where the concrete frame was progressively diamond
stitch drilled and whole beam section lifted out, without
the normally attendant noise, dust and vibration which can
be generated by demolition works. The remainder of the works
were undertaken with small robotic hydraulic concrete crackers
and pulverisors.
This
project required meticulous planning and execution, from
the provision of scaffolding and extensive crash decking
to preparation of a temporary protective and waterproof
roofing layer over the retained units.

Recycling:
Our
sites are required to recycle and reclaim as much waste
arising from demolition activites as possible. Waste is
sorted and recycled where possible and have a measurable
and auditable trail.
Demolition
of the varied buildings will create a variety of potentially
waste materials.
It
is intended that up to 100% of the following materials will
be recycled -
Concrete;
To be crushed to produce an alternative product which may
be used instead of natural aggregate. Not only will this
obviate landfill but will provide a cost effective alternative
that does not deplete valuable natural resources. Use of
such recycled material may be as - Driveway Material, Road
Base, Irrigation Control Barriers, Erosion Control Barriers,
Temporary Road Base, Gabion Stone, Blanket Stone etc.
Brick;
Salvaged bricks to be cleaned and recycled in the construction
industry for use in building projects requiring materials
to match specialist requirements.
Broken
or unsuitable bricks to be recycled as hardcore or crushed
and recycled for blinding or several of the uses as for
crushed concrete.
Tarmac;
To be recycled as a crushed material suitable for use in
reconstituted tarmac or as lower grade fill for road projects.
Steel;
To be recycled. Creating steel from virgin ore requires
4 x more energy that recycled steel. Recycling steels helps
decrease water pollution, air pollution and mining waste.
Steel beams in excellent condition may be re-used when re-producing
from original lengths.
Non-Ferrous
Metals;
Copper, Brass, Aluminium, Stainless Steel and other Alloys
will be recycled.
Wood;
To be recycled into the second user market or chipping for
product manufacture or pulping.

Bulk Evacuations:
Many
modern construction projects require the provision of underground
vehicle parking or reduced site levels.

Site Remediation:
With
the encouragement of Government brownfield sites are now
more commonly redeveloped (recycled). Such sites often suffer
from contamination arising from past uses. Ground beneath
site slabs, foundations and hardstandings may contain a
wide range of contaminants ranging from cyanide to old asbestos
materials.
Such
terrain requires careful treatment, removal and disposal
in accordance with current legislation. Capital Demolition
can undertake all necessary remediation measures in a professional
and efficient manner on behalf of site owners.
